The SADC Regional EE Programme develops a number
of publications to support its other four components, namely policy,
networking, training and research. The EEMail has been published twice
a year since 1998, but has now been merged with the EEASA (Environmental
Education Association of Southern Africa) Bulletin. The EE NewsFlash
is an electronic monthly publication which goes to nearly 500 EE organisations
and organisations.
There are other publications produced directly by the Programme with
a view to support environmental education processes in southern Africa.
Recent
publications include:
- A sourcebook entitled Developing Curriculum Frameworks (1999)
has been produced based on input from a workshop at the Regional EE
Centre in March 1998, a workshop involving course designers and tutors
from five SADC countries in June 1998, and a workshop at the annual
EEASA conference in July 1998. Developing Curriculum Frameworks examines
key ideas and orientations that could be considered when developing
a curriculum for adult learners focusing on environmental issues. The
sourcebook has been used extensively in the development of the curriculum
for the Rhodes University/ SADC International Certificate Course in
Environmental Education. It has also been used by tutors of a year-long
part-distance participatory environmental education course in South
Africa.
This sourcebook is designed to support the development of curriculum
frameworks in environmental education in the SADC region. It draws on
educational themes, ideas and practices to highlight some key ideas
and tools to guide deliberation on the development of curriculum amongst
adult learners. This sourcebook discusses some of the key features of
curriculum processes in diverse settings namely responsiveness; flexible
course structure; participation; praxis; and assessment as learning.

The
sourcebook entitled Development, Adaptation and Use of Learning
Support Materials (2003) draws on case stories from a number of
SADC countries, and professionals working in the field of environmental
education, in order to reflect the regional nature of the initiative.
Through its work in the region, the REEP has been able to collect a
wide range of case stories, which were used to compile the first draft
of this sourcebook. These were shared, discussed and expanded during
a three-day workshop held at the SADC REEP in November 2002 which involved
participants from 13 SADC countries.
The main objective of this sourcebook is to provide an enabling framework
for the development, adaptation and use of learning support materials
that foster and enhance environmental learning within different educational
settings and contexts. Through a series of questions, environmental
educators are encouraged to consider key aspects associated with learning
support materials development and use. A further objective of this sourcebook,
is to provide insight into participatory approaches to learning support
materials development, and how learning support materials can be enhanced
through ongoing monitoring and evaluation.
The SADC Regional Environmental Education Centre has been producing a
number of other relevant learning support materials to enhance EE processes
in the SADC region. These materials include curriculum development guidelines,
indigenous knowledge case studies, teacher support packs, calendars on
environmental days, environmental fact sheets, etc.
All these resources are available through the Centre and Share-Net. |
